A Simple Act of Gratitude

Gratitude is that warm feeling of thankfulness that flows from the heart and to every fiber of your being. A person who is grateful is said to be thankful for what they already have in the present moment and every circumstance that has led them to the now.

When you relish on the simple, good things that are happening in your life right now and the pleasant moments in the past, you cultivate a positive flow of energy coming to you. I like how Oprah Winfrey states it:

“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never have enough."

Try reading the quote a little slower; take in each word and reflect on each sentence. What are you thankful for in this moment while you are reading?

If it pleases you, take part in this simple 60-second gratitude exercise!

  • Grab a pen and paper and make a list of the things and people that you are grateful for.

  • Or simply just take a moment here, sit still, take a deep breath, and think of all the wonderful life experiences you had in the past and the present.

Now, I invite you to acknowledge the shift in your mood while writing or thinking of the good things. Did your breathing change from short and shallow to long and fulfilling breaths? Did you feel uplifted and now have a smile on your beautiful face? It’s hard not to have a warm feeling flowing through your body as you express gratitude! Believe it or not, that warm feeling is you giving yourself a genuine, loving hug. Expressing gratitude is not only an act of kindness, but it is also an act of self love. So don’t forget to give thanks to yourself for your courage, perseverance and all the good that you are!
